Excellent Grant. Love your idea. Very original and very adaptable to many applications. Might I suggest a run-out attachment for running sheet material off a tablesaw or a "workmate" style top to keep from have multiple contraptions in the shop.
If I could, I might suggest a small spring assisted load binder or cam-lack to lock the "dog" This may give a more possitive lock for some of the operations that need more stability.
Just some of my thoughts....

Good work.

I'm building some shop dogs. These will be a big upgrade from the stamped metal brackets and 2X4s that I have used in the past.

I have a question about the straps. What length strap is needed? Is the locking "pin" just a nail? It seems like a dowel insert along with the locking pin would work well.

Thanks in advance for the help.

How does the plywood-mounted miter saw attach to the top support member? In the video it looks like it is very firmly attached. Why not include this info with the plans and maybe raise the cost to $6.00 or $7.00?

I found a Miter Saw Stand Attachment in Woodsmith magazine, issue #73 on page 5, that would work on the ShopDog. It looks a lot like the one shown on this site.

I bought the plans and am pleased with them. I have not built the sawhorses yet but I am impressed with the design. I like the templates and the scale reference line to verify they printout is at the correct scale.

I have a few questions. According to Step 1 in the plans, all 4 rough cut legs are identical. Won't I need to make 2 as shown and 2 as mirror images?

When I apply the template to the rough cut legs, do I put it on the inner face of the leg or the outer face of the leg?

The holes for the pivot bolts are perpendicular to the faces of the legs. The legs are splayed and this causes the two bolts to not be in line with each other. Does this cause binding or cause the frame joints to flex when you open or close the horses?

Having the pivot bolts perpendicular to the legs is a major design flaw as far as I am concerned. I presume having a couple of washers between the legs provides some flexibility to allow the thing to actually open (which it does seem to be able to do!), but there is going to be stress somewhere, which can't be good.

I won't be making these for this reason.

Did you ever figure out which sides of the legs to put the templates on or if you have to flip the wood over to cut two of the legs?

I bought your plans and did not realize I had to have a miter saw, and a computer printer. But I went ahead and bought the stuff to build it, I had to make some really good guess work to get the notches and holes for the bolts correctly. I also noticed your CAD representations lack measurements in some important places (Degrees for the cross members?). So when it comes down to it, your plans didn't really help me much. Regardless I built mine, and they work fairly well. If it was me I would lay out all measurements on the first few pages of the plans, then worry about all that writing later (pictures are better than a thousand words, but only the right pictures help.)

Built two shopdogs from these plans. THe good news is, once you get them right, they are good, solid, versatile sawhorses, better than any folding sawhorse I've used. Unfortunately, cutting the legs to 32" makes a sawhorse that's about knee-high. I cut the legs for my second one to 42". It's tall enough, but not as stable. Also, it's very easy to get things wrong with these plans, as the pics don't always tell the whole story. I had to redo several legs before I got them right.

John, I want you on my basketball team! The top of mine come to 30" set up. That makes you 8'6" tall.
I agree with the ease of getting things wrong the first time. The plans look great but:
1. The image of the template on the leg does not show clearly that it is on the outer face.
2. Yoy MUST trace the template top AND sides (down the short side of the 2x4).
3. I have to drill my strap holes 15.25" from the end vs. 15.5" to get them to align
As far as the rest, just trust the plans.
PS. The big tools I use are:
---Miter saw
---Table saw
---Bandsaw
---Drill press

Just built one. Didn't come out 100 % right. e-mail Grant for support. didn't reply by the next day. So I winged it.

When cutting the notches the miter is opposite of the top. (long point to short point). That isn't clear in the plans.

If all the cuts are the same for all the legs then why do you need an inside and outside template? Correct me if im wrong but why not use the inside template for all legs then just flip over for the outer ones? Also once cut and set the way the legs should go is the slot for the 2x4 supposed to be flat? i am not getting a flat spot more like a peaked in the middle spot

You need to use the templates to get the pivot holes in the right place. They are not in the same location for the inside and outside legs. To your second question the slot should be flat if cut correctly.

Cut the templates and realized that you said pivot holes are not in the same location on the in- and ouside legs.
Does this mean the pivot holes location depends from thickness of legs or those are independents from thickness?
Anyway, perfect plan easy to understand for a sales guy! Good job, thanks!

Band Saw machines are used for cutting wood and in large scale. They are useful for that particular job. I have two machines at my disposal and the orders are so heavy I am planning to take another two machines for future needs.

In case you've scrutinized the miter saw overviews in a magazine like Fine Homebuilding, you understand that a saw this size has a great deal of vitality to additional.

This gives added security to your undertaking, keeping you protected from mischief. In the event that you need to re-saw a bit of material, you require a combative razor sharp edge. The more extensive a razor sharp edge width is, the more dependability you will get and the straighter the cut will be. A more restricted cutting edge will give a tighter cut that is ideal for a more definite venture. As a dependable guideline, utilize the broadest sharpened steel your undertaking can handle. This adds wellbeing to your venture.

Tried to reach out to WSD, but there's no response anymore from the contact us link. Does anyone know for a fact if all 4 legs can be cut the same, with the same bevel and miter? If so, then which side does the outer template go on and which side does the inner leg template go on? I bought the plans, but unfortunately I've found that they're lacking a few key points.

Steve, I just saw your comment. All legs are cut exactly the same. You need to just flip one around after you cut them, like it says in the plans. So sorry for the delayed response. I am working on some Christmas presents.

I would love to ask a few more questions without giving anything away, so if you get a break from Christmas presents, my contact info should be included under order #8529606. Thanks
